The Lexus LX570 is a massive, luxurious flagship SUV. The center console is dominated by a large Multi-Display Screen that acts as the command center for the whole vehicle. You use it to control the navigation, dial in the climate control, and manage your audio. But what happens when that command center stops taking orders?
A very common issue on the 2010–2017 LX570 is the failure of the touch screen glass itself. It usually starts small. You might notice that the bottom right corner of the screen doesn't respond when you press it, so you have to press it two or three times really hard to get the button to register. Eventually, the entire screen ignores your touch completely. You can see the map, the radio is playing, but you can't interact with the screen at all.
An even more annoying version of this failure is called "phantom touch." This is when the screen starts thinking it is being touched, even when your hands are on the steering wheel. The radio stations will start changing rapidly on their own, or the air conditioning will suddenly blast to the maximum setting because the screen is essentially possessed.
This happens because of the technology Lexus used for the screen. They didn't use the hard glass you find on an iPhone; they used a resistive touch overlay. It works by physically pressing two microscopic layers of material together when you touch the screen. After years of fingers tapping it, and baking in the hot summer sun inside the cabin, those layers wear out. They lose their sensitivity, or they warp and stick together, creating those annoying phantom touches.
The dealership will tell you that the whole navigation head unit is ruined and try to sell you a replacement for thousands of dollars. That is simply not true. The LCD screen behind the glass is perfectly fine; it is just the clear touch glass on top that is worn out.
At UTYAREPAIR, we offer a specialized mail-in service just for this screen. You send us the display, and we carefully dismantle it in our lab. We remove the old, worn-out touch layer and install a brand-new, high-quality touch glass panel. We perform a proprietary rebuild to ensure the new glass is perfectly calibrated to the factory LCD. We mail it back, you plug it into your dash, and you get your perfectly responsive, calm command center back without the massive dealership bill.
